'The Retreat Hotel's Comeback Special' / November 6th

The Retreat Hotel celebrates the pubs comeback with an all-day free live music extravaganza featuring Good Morning, Snowy Band, Girlatones and other sizzling local acts on Saturday November 6th.

It’s been a difficult two years, ones that have disproportionately affected creatives across the globe, leaving many without a financial lifeline and all the reason to lose hope. Without gigs, touring and festivals, the so-called Australian industry has plummeted 90% in economic value, with many artists instead looking inwards and turning to releases instead. Though, as I'm sure all aware by now, the amount of streams you need to reach minimum wage living alone is millions, with spotify paying $0.00437 per stream to artists, and Amazon Music and Youtube even less.

With all of these disheartening statistics in mind, you can understand why the news that venues can now reopen with restricted capacity is a cause for celebration. Better yet, the Victorian government has turned around with an updated roadmap stating that when 90% of individuals 12 and over are double vaxxed (projected 24th of November), venues can open without density limits

The Retreat Hotel in Brunswick has recognised this reason to celebrate and tomorrow, on Saturday November 6th, they are hosting a free all-day party to relish in the return of the beloved pub and its treasured live music. Tomorrow is a chance to welcome back all of the incredible supporters, punters, musicians and DJ’s, where the Retreat have enlisted some of their favourite acts to keep the festivities high and music rolling out all day.

On the lineup expect to be wowed by Good Morning, Snowy Band, Girlatones, Elise Lange, Quality Used Cars, Delivery, Winter McQuinn and the Garden Gnomes alongside Flightless DJs + Erik the Jugoslav, from 2pm until late.

Since we haven’t yet reached the 90% marker , restrictions will still be in place and the event will be running at a lower capacity. To combat this and ensure fair listening for all ears, the Retreat will be running a “rotation system” in the band room, signifying that once you’ve finished watching an act, you’ll be asked to head back out to the beer garden to make way for somewhere else.

Though don’t fret, DJ’s will be in the beer garden all across the event, so there will be plenty of music to melt in even when you’re not in the band room.

Head on down to The Retreat Hotel in Brunswick on November 6th to bask in the glory of live music.

Thank you for reading this article. Before you leave the page, we’d like you to take a moment to read this statement.  We are asking our readers to take action and stand with the BIPOC community who fight and endure the oppression and injustice of racial inequality.

Here in ‘Australia’,  Indigenous people are the most incarcerated population on Earth. Countless lives have been murdered by white police, white government policies and this country’s white history, institutionalised colonialism and ongoing racial oppression. Racial injustice continues today under the phoney, self-congratulatory politics of ‘Reconciliation’ and the notion that colonialism is something that must be denied and forgotten, an uncomfortable artefact of the past.

Feeling guilty is not enough. We must take action, pay the rent, educate ourselves and acknowledge that empathy and sorrow for past actions is insufficient if this does nothing to prevent our current reality from extending into the future.
